Starting opioid agonist treatment after hospitalization for toxicity halves risk of repeat event

A new study led by researchers at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and Unity Health Toronto shows that almost one-quarter of hospital-treated opioid toxicities experienced a repeat event within six months, but early initiation of opioid agonist therapy (OAT) can cut that risk almost in half.
